Gynecology

Gynecologic surgery refers to surgical procedures performed on the female reproductive system, including the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and other pelvic organs. These surgeries are conducted to address various medical conditions, such as reproductive organ disorders, cancer, infertility, and other gynecological issues. Here are some common types of gynecologic surgeries:

Hysterectomy: This procedure involves the removal of the uterus and is often performed to treat conditions such as uterine cancer, fibroids, endometriosis, or persistent pelvic pain.

Oophorectomy: This surgery involves the removal of one or both ovaries. It may be performed to treat ovarian cancer, cysts, or other ovarian disorders.

Salpingectomy: This is the removal of one or both fallopian tubes and is often done to treat conditions like ectopic pregnancies or as a preventive measure for certain cancers.

Myomectomy: For women with uterine fibroids (noncancerous growths in the uterus), a myomectomy involves the removal of the fibroids while preserving the uterus.

Tubal ligation: Also known as female sterilization, this surgery involves blocking or sealing the fallopian tubes to prevent pregnancy.

Dilation and curettage (D&C): This is a common procedure involving the dilation of the cervix and removal of the uterine lining. It may be performed for diagnostic purposes or to address abnormal bleeding.

Laparoscopy: This minimally invasive procedure involves the insertion of a thin, lighted tube with a camera (laparoscope) through small incisions in the abdomen. It is used for diagnostic purposes and can also be employed for surgeries such as removal of ovarian cysts or treatment of endometriosis.
